J Johnson "Formerly Known as J-Silas"
Posted by Moeski Lynch on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 3:01pm EST

jjohnsonThese are the lyrics that J spit at the beginning of his song, "Testimony 180 degrees" on his 2004 debut, Sound Proof. There were many heartfelt lyrics such as these that I heard from J. Johnson on various online radio stations that made me cop his album quickly. Back in the mid 90's the reason artists like Tupac, Biggie, Nas and a host of other emcees connected with their audience is because they were transparent and let their audience into their world. You may also hear people say that they connect with a certain Pastor because they're real and transparent. Well, this is a trait J. Johnson definitely picked up as you listen to his lyrics. He has no problem telling you where he came from and in the same breath he'll help you get to where he's going.

No more do I smoke blunts for breakfast cause now I'm protected/I know my lungs are effected/I've been ressurrected...by the One who perfects kids/no longer am I neglected.

The Artist Formerly Known As...

J's life was pretty smooth until about the age of ten years old. That smooth ride in life would take a quick bumpy turn that was unexpected. Jay was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. The change from Middle school to High school was very challenging. Popularity, peer pressure, and promiscuity awaited him along with other surprises.

The next drastic turn following puberty would be the diagnosis of a kidney disease called Nuerphoritic Syndrome. Until his mother could be cleared for a kidney transplant by a living related donor, J had to have dialysis treatments three times a week. The pressure to fit in with the crowd led J into using drugs, getting drunk, clubbing, fornication, drug dealing , and all sorts of ungodliness. But even in this God had His hand in his life, because it was through these struggles that J would become the passionate man of God that he is today.

J was brought up in church and knew of God but it wasn't until he hit rock bottom in 1999 that God became real to him and he accepted Jesus Christ into his heart. God blessed J with gifts, one of them as you know so well was the ability to put together heart felt bars in song form. God set out for J to reach the masses and so he has. He's been on Power 99 Sunday Morning Inspirations (a secular radio station for Philadelphia, New Jersey and surrounding areas) with Don Won and Tiffany Bacon.

He's performed at many events such as community out reaches, Rap Fest, and Sista's to name a few. He's shared the stage in ministry with other Jesus Driven Artist such as Cross Movement, Da Truth, Corey Red, Todd Bangz, and many more. He has also been a featured artist on the Cross Movement's Holy Culture and Gifted Wrapped projects as well as Da Truth's Moment of Truth album. He's been a featured artist at Rap Fest in New York City with Rock Soul where he was formally known as J-Silas. He was also a featured solo artist on the "Rock of Ages Vol. 1 compilation C.D. and "Urban Compositions."  In 2004 J would release his 1st solo project with Rock Soul titled "Sound Proof" with Lee Jerkins and Dave Hackley.

Now, simply known as Jaron Johnson, J is married to the beautiful and lovely Mrs. Maricris Johnson and they have a son, Jasir Alberto Johnson. They have plans and hopes to build their wonderful family as God stated in Genesis. They attend Antioch of Calvary Chapel in West Philadelphia and are serving God in mighty ways.
