Last Friday Rick Ross released a mixtape titled Rich Forever, which serves as a prelude to his upcoming album God Forgives, I Don't. The first single being pushed from the mixtape is one called "Holy Ghost" featuring hip hop mogul Diddy. As one would expect, the song glorifies riches and worldly fame, but there is a new added twist. Ross has thrown God heavily up in the mix in a way that many will probably consider "blasphemous" (note the quotations please).
Before I continue, I will let you hear the song for yourself. This is the "clean" version, but should still only be heard by mature listeners. The lyrics are provided as well.

I Timothy 4:1-2: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.
Don't Let the Devil In
Without a doubt you can see all of the twisted scriptural references in the song. Wickedness means "to twist; twisted; to make evil of good."
Ross says he is talking to the "holy ghost" inside of his Buggati, and that he refuses to open the door to the devil. Who is the devil? From his perspective it is anyone that would threaten his livelihood. That would be Colombians (drug cartel; "the Mexicans"), the law, or individuals without a vision to make lots of money.
Little does Rick Ross seem to know concerning the devil, because he certainly isn't made of flesh and blood. He is a spiritual being. As well, he must not know that satan can appear as an "angel of light" (2 Cor. 11:14).
It's interesting to note that Rick thinks his enemy is man, and on the outside.
Talkin' to the Holy Ghost
In the song Ross suggests that the "holy ghost" is his personal consultant, one he can talk (pray) to, and one who also works on his behalf to make him rich, as well as destroy his enemies. Yet, he must have a relationship with God, because this "holy ghost" is helping him to gain the whole world, right?
Let's not forget that it was satan in Matthew chapter 4 who tried to present himself as God to Jesus, trying to tempt him and offer him the world. This is nothing new. God does indeed give promises of blessing in His word, and he also says that vengeance is His concerning our enemies. But this "holy ghost" in Rick's song is a far cry from being the true and living God.
If not God, who exactly is this "holy ghost" Rick Ross speaks of? I will show you.
A Spirit of Divination
Check out this passage from Acts chapter 16:
16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
The young girl was possessed by a spirit of divination, which is a demonic spirit. This particular spirit foretells of future events and provides hidden knowledge to those whom it possesses or consults with it. It is utterly deceitful and leads people to believe it is the true God. King Saul sought consultation from this same spirit and God judged him.
I'm here to tell you that this "holy ghost" in Rick Ross' song is not God at all, but is a demonic spirit of divination. Rick Ross and Diddy are actually telling us through this song - which also happens to be the very first track on the mixtape - that they consult with demons for their fortune in life.
Blurring the Lines
Satan is trying to twist people's view of what it means to be a true believer in Jesus Christ. He is leading the world to teach that you can be however you want to be and still live for God. Nothing could further from the truth. This reminds me of a video I recently saw on YouTube where a woman said in front of a very large church that she was a "witch for Jesus." The pastor said "you are a witch!" She then said, "no, I am a witch for Jesus!"
As you and I know, there is no such thing as a "witch for Jesus." God does not use satans power and methods to bless and exalt his people. He does not have us perform evil acts like Ross suggests. Nor will he stand for us walking in pride, which is at the heart of satan's identity. God cannot be tempted with evil, and neither does he tempt or perform evil. That very idea is wickedness.
Proverbs 6:16-19:
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
All sound like themes from this song hunh? So God must absolutely hate this song! I know he does!
Ignorance Isn't Innocence
I don't believe Ross and Diddy completely know what they are doing, but that doesn't even matter. Folks who are deceived don't know it, else it wouldn't be deception. And, I'm almost sure that very few just outright want to serve satan. They are deceived, but folks are negatively affected by their deception. It's the blind leading the blind.
Rick Ross is lost. I know that. So, in context this article really isn't just about him. This isn't a natural situation. It's spiritual, so I'm addressing the spiritual implications of the song and exposing the spirit that is working through Rick Ross and his music.
Rick Ross Fan?
Many listen to Ross' music and idolize him, but don't allow satan to fool you. Like everyone who is lost, he is just a puppet. Yes, a puppet.
2 Timothy 2:26 says:
and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Taken captive by him at his will? That sounds like a puppet to me.
If you are a fan of Rick Ross and try to mimick his life and blatant disregard for God's righteous standard, well don't be fooled. God is not mocked. You will surely reap what you sow, and one day we will all have to give an account for the deeds done in our bodies. If you do not know Jesus as your Lord and savior, then sadly your judgement will be an eternity in the lake of fire.
Today satanism, demonic symbolism, and the occult are placed right in your face. It is no longer hidden. The world says, "if you want to be gay and live for God, that's totally fine. God is love, and he accepts you just as you are." Not so. God expects us to renew our minds and live holy. The sad part about all of this, is that Rick Ross and many like him make these kinds of songs because for the longest the church has been associated with being "broke, busted and disgusted." All men need to be saved, but you still have to live down here on earth.
Pray for Rick Rozay
Concerning Ross and Diddy, I am not God and don't fully know the intentions of their hearts. And even though it has been three years since I last wrote about the spiritual implications of Rick Ross and his music (Read: Why Rick Ross' BET "Life Every Voice" Interview Is A Problem), I still give him and Diddy the benefit of the doubt and account this song to complete foolishness and ignorance. That doesn't change the harm it can cause spiritually for others though.
Saints, pray for Rick Ross and Diddy. I truly feel sorry for them, because they are both in darkness, and this song shows just how blind they are. It is us who truly need to say "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Because they have no clue.
DaSouth.com interview with Rick Ross
DaSouth.com co-owner Tre9 caught up with Rick Ross and David Banner back in 2009 to discuss what their faith is, thoughts on Christian Hip Hop and more. Ross says "I put Jesus first [in my life], ya feel me?" They speak as if to be disciples for Christ, saying Jesus was amongst the lost, and that they tell the truth about the harsh realities of life. They feel as if they are being wrongly judged, and that people should look at their actions and not their words.
In light of Rick Ross' new song "Holy Ghost," we can't help to see that he has taken deeper steps into darkness since this interview three years ago. We are not here to judge William Leonard Robers II (Rick's real name) by any means, but to show the fans who idolize these rappers that they are being used to lead them into disaster. Open your eyes people.
