Lecrae's latest video "Just Like You" is on WSHH, and it definitely needs to be. They need light over there. Fortunately, unlike many others in Christian Hip-Hop, Reach Records does not encourage people to visit WSHH to view their videos. It is simply for evangelisitc purposes. It is the lost who need to see the video at WSHH, not the saved.
When I was on WSHH I did a little investigating. I put Lecrae’s name in the search field to see what would come up. Only two videos popped up. One was the 116 "Man Up Anthem" video, and the other was "Just Like You." Those were the only two, and the title to each said that they were "label submitted," meaning that Reach Records submitted the videos to WSHH.
That is 100% fine.
Now let me ask you a question. Have you ever seen Reach Records announce that they had their videos on WSHH? No, you haven't. Why would they do that when you can see them at DaSouth.com or MixxTV? Shameless plug. Reach did it strictly as a means of online evangelism, not to be validated.
Lecrae’s career didn’t get to where it is by standing on the shoulders of WSHH. It got there the tried and true way – by trusting God. Stop thinking that because you’re on WSHH that your career is going to take off, or that people will take you serious as an artist or whatever. Somehow we think we have arrived as a genre because the world respects us artistically. Before, they pretty much ignored us. So now when videos make it onto a site like WSHH, in a sense it does speak to the good quality of the video. But with the nature and content of the site, why would that be your means of validation, or to help others validate you? Don’t look to the world to make or break you. Do like Lecrae and use it as a form of ministry only.
Do you remember when Abraham refused to accept a reward from the King of Sodom after a battle in Genesis 14:22-23? What did Abraham say?
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich
Abraham wouldn't let this king give him anything because his trust was in God alone. He wasn't going to let it be said that someone other than God blessed him. Will you? Will WSHH get the credit for giving you exposure? They want the credit. Here is Q again:
Yeah, a lot of artists have been signed from the site. A lot of models have gotten famous from WorldStarHipHop too. The site is so big, people see you there and things take off. It's just like being on TV; Any major network channel whether its BET, MTV, ABC, or whoever. If you are on the front of WorldStarHipHop today, boom, everybody knows who you are. Everybody wants to be on WSHH because of that today. A lot of people blowing my phone off the hook. Models, rappers, and more. However, I changed the way I accept things and made it harder for new content to go up. It's crazy to me because people will hit me up like I'll do anything to get on your site. However, I keep the business first and be picky of who comes up. I don't get credit for any of them after being featured so I am just picky of who I deal with. Rappers and models blow up and don't even credit us, so I just don’t deal with everybody. There's so many rappers that have broken out I can't even recount them all. I just see it as a blessing and I'm sure it will come back. Model names, Ms Natasha and Cubana Lust got huge from WorldStarHipHop.
Don't get me wrong, I undrstand how Q feels. No-one likes to feel used, so I feel him on that. But at the same time he realizes how powerful his platform is. Some of you do too, and that may be why some of you send them your videos. This is ultimately a heart issue. Make sure you are aligning yourself with WSHH for the right reasons - evangelism. Same thing for those who say they do evangelism at night clubs and strip clubs. Don't play yourself.
