My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.-Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
The faint sound of a heart monitor beeping penetrates his ears as he lies in the hospital bed. His body, shattered from a car accident he had a week ago. From a distance, he hears the doctor tell his family he does not have much longer to live because he has a lot of internal bleeding, which cannot be stopped. Thoughts begin to rush through his mind, but one memory stays with him the most. It is the memory of when his grandma used to take him to church when he was just a boy and the beautiful prayers she prayed. Tears start to roll down his cheeks, because the Jesus whom he had been running from his whole life was now tugging at his heart on his deathbed. Because he was too weak to speak aloud, in his mind, he asked God to help him remember how his grandma told him to recite the sinner's prayer once he was ready to accept Jesus into his heart. The Lord brought it to his memory and he began to pray it from his heart, he prayed, "Lord I know I have ran from you my whole life, and I should have accepted you sooner, please forgive me of everything I have done wrong, change my heart and make me new. I believe that you truly did die on the cross for the salvation of humanity and that you rose again on the third day. I believe everything my grandma told me about you. Amen." Then the Lord spoke to his heart and said, "Today, you will see your grandma and Me in heaven." Hours later, the beeping from the heart monitor stopped and he passed away with his family and close friends surrounding him. As soon as he died, all that is seen from him is a dim light from a distance and then he hears a familiar sound-the sound he heard in the hospital-the faint sound of a heart monitor penetrating his ears. Immediately after, hearing the sound, the dim light he sees becomes indescribably bright and he sees God standing before him with the entire heavenly host applauding his arrival. Amongst the heavenly host, he sees his grandma just as God had promised. He is finally home, where the heart monitor never stops beeping.
The way we live our life in Christ is extremely important. If we as Christian's live the majority of our lives running from God, eventually we will run into sin, and when we run into sin it causes us to become disconnected from the Father. Moreover, when we become disconnected from Him, we begin to die slowly, and if we stay in this state, we will end up going to hell, like a sinner who never wanted to know God. So, if this has been us, it is time to stop running from God and run to Him, so we can be reconnected. We have to remember that God is the one who allows our heart to beat. He is the One who monitors our heart, and although one day our natural heart will stop beating, our spiritual heart will live forever. Therefore, whether we go to heaven, or make our bed in hell, a heart monitor will be beeping. One heart monitor will have a beep, which will torment forever, while the other one's beep will be as sweet as honey.
