Jor’Dan Armstrong is what is missing from gospel music today. He comes equipped with a new sound for a new generation that has its own way of expressing praise. As a school instructor and co-founder of a music non-profit organization, Armstrong witnesses on a daily basis how music can impact lives. He hopes that his debut album, “Champion,” will do the same. 

Jor’Dan Armstrong is a 24 year old native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attends Times of Refreshing World Outreach Ministries under the leadership of Dr. Calvin N. Emery. Armstrong is an outstanding vocalist and percussionist who has been performing since the age of five. Over the years, he has perfected his gifts by playing in various music departments throughout Louisiana. Armstrong has expanded his musical range by showcasing his vocal, production and songwriting talents on “Champion.”  

“Champion” was released in November 2009 and outlines a dynamic testimony of struggle and triumph, which ultimately highlights Jesus Christ as being our definitive Champion. This album depicts everyday situations that will appeal to the saved and draw in the lost, which is the ultimate goal. Armstrong strives to gain attention with his innovative sound and change lives with the message of salvation. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States ministering this message to young and old audiences alike. 

Jor’Dan Armstrong exudes creativity at its best! His “urban gospel music” sound offers a fresh perspective to many who have not been interested in gospel music before. However, his message is relevant and poignant enough to interest even the most traditional gospel music lover. His live stage performances are energetic and vibrant! Armstrong always utilizes every inch of a stage to maximize audience participation and to heighten excitement.  

Imaginative and soulful best describes the multi-sound patchwork that makes up Armstrong’s sound. “Champion” begins with a proclamation of seeking God with the song “Where You Are,” which brings a pop appeal to worship. Listeners will be left spellbound with such ground-breaking hits as the hip-hop driven “Drive Me Crazy,” the alternative-rock based “Take It Away,” and the free-spirited “Glad I Got You,” all of which have contagious beats and an infectious message.  

Jor’Dan Armstrong’s goal is to broaden the scope of who gospel music can reach. With a variety of musical influences such as Prince, Tye Tribbett, Paramore and The Dream, his sound and message has already begun to reach mass audiences through opening for well-known acts such as Mary Mary and Fred Hammond! Armstrong’s music is helping listeners find the champion in each of us through Jesus Christ.
