Since the release of Death By Design, Katalyst has been busy co-forming Legacy Music Records. The record label released Decipha's REP in June 2010, and is now gearing up to release his new project.
Inspired by the insight woven into John Bunyan’s famous book, *A Pilgrim’s Progress, this multi-media endeavor includes: a new album, a graphic novel, an interactive website, and a concert series. Each tells a different piece of the overall story of the spiritual and physical battles in the Christian journey.
The innovative approach he is using to fund this project is harnessed by fan support through a website called www.kickstarter.com.
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative ideas and ambitious endeavors.
They believe that...
• A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide. • A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.
Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.
How does funding work?
Every project has a funding goal (any dollar amount) and a time limit, (from 1 - 90 days) set by the project creator. When the deadline is reached, there is one of two results:
1. Funding Successful: If a project has met or surpassed its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are instantly charged and funds go directly to the project creator. Project creators are then responsible for completing the project and delivering rewards as promised.
2. Funding Unsuccessful: If a project has NOT met its funding goal, all pledges are canceled. That's it.
This method employs the use of social media and fan support to raise the necessary funds to create a project. Each fan or friend who donates any dollar amount gets what is called a benefit or reward. Each project and artist is different so the rewards change. They should be fun and very exciting. Katalyst is excited about this new opportunity because it allows him to interact with the people who will receive the art on a more personal and intimate level from the start of the process.
Katalyst hopes are for more than just he himself receiving the support needed for this massive undertaking. He is hoping that Kickstarter would become a tool for other like-minded individuals all across the genre to get their projects funded.
While we aren't allowed to discuss titles of the project, Katalyst is very excited about the partnership with Lions and Liars productions led by Sho Baraka. www.lionsandliars.com
