I’m about my father’s B-I / His love I can’t deny / You can have whatever you like / And I ain’t T.I. This is the first line of the first verse of the first song on Humble Tips new album About Business. Also, just a side, note, his whole album is packed full of punch lines like this. Lose focus for a split second and one will miss a hot line, pun, or just straight bananas metaphor. Humble is on top of his business game on this one for sure. How he does it….no clue but he is constantly pumping out Spirit filled slammers for Christ. Every time you turn around Humble is dropping something. It must be no coincidence that he calls himself Humble Tip; he puts out consistent quality that could easily give him an enlarged head. Humble conveys a well-painted perspective to explain why he is about the business of God. That being that Christ died for him (as well as all of mankind) so he has no choice other than to serve the Lord with his strength. He goes through the whole sphere of why he is for God and why he is about his Father’s business; we are restricted to the sinful body we live in but Christ died for us and because of this we must follow Him because He has promised us eternity in paradise with Him.

The project has everything you could want from a hip hop CD. It has a pop joint, club anthems, southern slangers, a two and a half minute long acapella and deep listens. It definitely does not get stale at any point and every song captures the listener within 10-15 seconds. The production is above average but has room to improve. Humble’s creative and innovative flow makes up for this lack in production and the lyrical creativity is unmatched. Humble has the ability to change his voice as well as his flow dynamically to add an extra element to his songs. Through this he is able to make any line that would not necessarily catch the listener’s attention, pop out because of change in flow. Also, it has everything that gives a holy hip hop album its credibility and respect. The spiritual content is not necessarily as preachy as the 116 Clique’s yet enough that it does not water down the call of the gospel. Humble teamed up with a couple of artists for features and chose them wisely. Just to name a few: K Drama, D Maub, Psalmizt., Hot Handz.
On the third track, S.P.F. (Salvation Prevents Fire), featuring K Drama and D Maub, Humble gets a run for his money with D Maub. D Maub makes sure to hold his own on this joint. He almost steals the spotlight away and takes the cake from the other two. Most definitely a favorite track on the album. K Drama does what he does with his 16 bars. The song speaks on the power of salvation through Jesus Christ. K Drama speaks on the biblical fact that salvation occurs at one point in time and it is not possible to lose. This song is one of the great things about HHH. Artists are able to use metaphors that do not apply to the secular hip hop world and the metaphors are a perfect way to present Christ.
A song on the album with a more classical feel is Burn Burn ft. the Gyft. The Gyft drops an amazing chorus that explains the gospel story in its simplest terms. The song is definitely one that will grab and cause one to pause for a second and thank the LORD for what he did on Calvary’s cross. Praise God! We are all sinners, saved by grace and would not have it any other way. Yet, why do we not recognize Him for that. We should all remember what we were and what we are because of Christ’s love. This is the greatest love story of all. One day He is going to return, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. What a better reminder for believers to be about their Father’s business than the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Album aside, choose God in every situation, do His will in this world. Do it for Him, His gain, His fame, His glory and His honor. Father, I pray that whether or not anyone ever hears this album that we would seek you and aim to glorify your Son in our lives. Thank you for the cross and for the promise of your Holy Scripture. Amen.
