kingdomcity-impression

There is an old saying that goes “variety is the spice of life” sometimes this is very true. It is most definitely the case when it comes to the first National release via Infinity distribution by Kingdom City Records out of Kansas City, MO. Instead of going the flagship artist route Kingdom City opts for strength in numbers.  This record is a musical as well as spiritual buffet packed with music that covers the Christian spectrum from hardcore hip-hop to electronica and many things in between. Founded by Michael Watson, Kingdom City throws its hat into the gospel music ring with a project entitled “ImPression.”

There is no shortage of talent on this project from the artist signed to Kingdom City to the featured guests. Names like Dillon Chase, Peedee, 1-Lyfe, Azriel and, Dre Sr just to name a few. Well-placed guest artists include Elekt, Tedashi as well as  Young Joshua.

The album begins with a spoken word piece by Elekt a verbal synopsis of sorts, A vivid, realistic, and at times stinging and scathing introduction. Elekt’s piece invites us to press on, It incites us to stand firm in faith as well as indicts those that chose to be some stumbling blocks to those walking this Christian walk.

The ultra energetic party joint/ anthem “I Press on” sets the tone for the album cipher style featuring Dre Sr., Peedee, Du C, Zon, Micah Smith, 1-Lyfe, Azriel and Dillon Chase. Synth heavy and bass driven’ this song will have you getting it in if you are ill at krumping or just a head nod person. Each artist stamps there own signature flow and reason they press on this joint.

The Book of Romans is the basis for the electronic club banger “ Body and Soul ” Peedee croons some straight up meat over this synth laden song assisted by Micah Smith. Peedee echos the plight of Paul stating that “What I want to do I never do” / “What I want to do I never choose.” There is truly a battle going on inside our body between our Body(flesh) & Our Soul(Sprit). I didn’t know the truth would have me doing the robot!

Even though impression offers a myriad of choices, it presents some of the hardest songs I have heard in a long time. Peedee gets grimy with the assistance of Young Joshua on the gritty track “Hoodie on.” This truly rugged Christian anthem will have you suited and booted for The Kingdom ready to hit the block and preach the gospel. “I Push” is also a blazin track brought to us courtesy of “Dry Bones Live. ” If we want to make it in this life we have to push through pain, push through persecution, push past our flesh, and push toward the prize of the high calling.

As I stated before, if you like variety  you will be more than pleased with this project. Kingdom City runs the gambit with Impression. If you like it smooth like the R&B tinged “Rest in You” or radical like the whirlwind “War” Kingdom City has it poppin on this album.

His Swag Productions does a great job of providing the tracks for this album. His Swag keeps it funky and diverse.

Over all Impression is a great look for Kingdom City I really felt they presented a united front on this project. I in my opinion as the reviewer I believe they will do very well in the Christian arena as long as they follow up this album with other solid cohesive projects. Impression left a great impression on me, Pun intended.
