Victory is Certain refers to the fact that God's children, Christians, are the benefactors of following the sovereign King of Kings. Dictionary.com defines victory as a success or triumph over an enemy in battle or war. The enemy is Satan and his minions. Indiana based CHH artist WillStomp does an admirable job showcasing that Victory Iz Certain. He sticks to the concept of being victorious over the enemy. WillStomp immediately declares his intent on "Victory Iz Cetain (Intro)." The emcee states that "this is weak, for the lame, for the lost/ the ones looking for the truth, but have yet to find the cross." The previous bars suggest that WillStomp is presenting a project to those who are lost and those who are struggling to find the truth in life. In essence, this album can be an evangelical tool for struggling Christians as well as those who do not have a relationship with God.
WillStomp is effective at creating anthems as evidenced by the ultra hype "Rocky Balboa." WillStomp raps, "uppercuts and body blows, yeah that's how the body rose/ even Muhammad Ali knows, your best bet's to play the ropes." WillStomp continues the anthem based music on "Avalanche," "C.O.G." and "King of Kingz." WillStomp's music is suitable for the stage, meaning that WillStomp will have a difficult time deciding on music to perform live (this is a good thing though). WillStomp's lyrical content is on point and his delivery is never rushed, these are signs of someone who is very comfortable on the microphone. WillStomp utilizes a faster flow on the up-tempo "Go," a track that is assisted by 737 and "Turn My Praise Up." Some emcees suffer technically when they speed up their flow, this not the case for WillStomp or 737. WillStomp raps about being headed on a path to hell and finding deliverance on "U Turn," God blessing his life and everything that he touches on "Errrrything," how Jesus reigns supreme over everything on "J.ESUS O.VER E.VERTHING" and how WillStomp leans on the Lord and how the rock does not move on "Leanin On The Rock." The previous tracks highlight WillStomp's ability to pen hooks that are energetic and memorable. The lyrical content for this project is pretty "safe." WillStomp sticks to familiar concepts that we have all heard before. I would love to hear more introspective based songs like "Your Victory." Songs like "Your Victory" highlight Will's transformation as a man, shedding the old skin and progressing towards becoming a better man for Christ.
The beat selection for Victory Iz Certain is excellent and WillStomp has a nice ear for beats. The sound varies based on the actual concept of the track. As I stated before, the production for this album is great and "Rocky Balboa," "King Of Kingz" and "J.ESUS O.VER E.VERTHING" include some of my favorite beats. I also enjoy the fact that WillStomp took risks as evidence by rhyming over beats that had a faster tempo.
Overall Victory Iz Certain is an album that incorporates a lot of familiar themes that we have heard before. Victory Iz Certain benefits from stellar production and excellent song structure. I understand that WillStomp loves Christ and that God has brought him from an old lifestyle yet I do not know about his struggles as a Christian, so the personal connection is lacking a bit. I believe that more songs about the struggle associated with being victorious would resonate stronger than some of the familiar themes that were presented. All in All WillStomp presents an album that is great to listen to and the replay value is based on personal preference.
