Can you really be an open book? Can you share your soul with the public? Or like most of us (especially men) will you pick and choose what you want folks to know about you and leave those not so nice things in your life under wraps. I believe this what this album is about, the artists B.Holy bearing his soul for all to see as a bridge to bring folks closer to the Gospel. For that I applaud this man. This is a genuine album here. I appreciate your boldness.
There is no new ground covered in this album, throughout it he deals with topics we know well, pride, sexual immorality, amongst a few other things. But no matter how much we discussing these stumbling blocks they remain in our lives, and being reminded of their power, and God’s ability to conquer them is always welcome.
Production wise. B.Holy reps his state of Texas well, The beats are tastefully done, predictable in many ways but with enough touches that they don’t sound cookie cutter or copycat. Standout tracks for me are "For the Moment" (feat. Nai Washington). It's a laid back r&b type track and Ms Washington sings a great hook and half of the second verse, but then she starts rhyming and she is just as talented with the rhyme skills. She is an artist worth keeping an eye out for. The track discusses adultery from a male and female perspective which is a fresh look at a topic which unfortunately plagues our community much too often. "Lost Ones" (feat. Michelle Ezell) is an upbeat dance track that also stands out highlighting how God’s seeks us out like lost sheep.
Personally, being into more sample heavy hip hop, I really dig the final track "I’m Gone"; its got a dope guitar loop, and raps about the end times soon to come always intrigue me. Being a boom bap east coast kind of guy, I have to admit, this album is not totally for me; and technically speaking there’s not much intricacy to the lyrical arrangements or beats presented in this lp. However I am very impressed with how upfront and honest B.Holy is in this album. He appears earnest in his approach and I feel this album would appeal to a lot of folks. Keep up the good work brother!
